Conceiving Computationally

چکیده
I present some of the research activities of my group in Vision as a Grand Challenge problem whose solution is estimated to need the power of TTop/s computers. Visual information representations which are motivated by the function of the primary visual cortex are computed. In the case of simple objects such as convex polygons, these representations allow straightforward interpretation for object recognition. Lower dimension representations which are used to simplify the problem of comparing input to prestored information have limitations. Optical ow methods applied to complete representations are studied as a possible solution to this problem. The automatic identiication of persons by a face image is used as a touchstone for the proposed methods.

The concept of experience by John Dewey revisited: conceiving, feeling and “enliving”
: The concept of experience by John Dewey revisited: conceiving, feeling and “enliving”. Dewey takes a few steps towards a differentiation of the concept of experience, such as the distinction between primary and secondary experience, or between ordinary (partial, raw, primitive) experience and complete, aesthetic experience. However, he does not provide a systematic elaboration of these distin...
متن کاملConceptual Issues in Quantifying Unusualness and Conceiving Stochastic Experiments: Insights from Students’ Experiences in Designing Sampling Simulations1
This article reports on a classroom teaching experiment that engaged a group of high school students in designing sampling simulations within a computer microworld. The simulation-design activities aimed to foster students’ abilities to conceive of contextual situations as stochastic experiments, and to engage them with the logic of hypothesis testing. This scheme of ideas involves imagining a ...
